Beating the algorithms can feel like a constant up hill battle.
But it doesn't have to be.
Today I chat about the other key algorithms at play and what you need to do to get in front of them, having them both work in your favour.

Welcome to the mastery method podcast. Today, I have a fabulous episode ahead for you. And it’s all about the algorithm. And there are a couple of different ones that play within business and life. And I’ve been asked a lot of questions about algorithms lately, specifically, you know, the meta and platform ones and how to beat them.
Uh, and I’m also aware that Meta specifically around Instagram has made some recent updates to its algorithm, but truthfully the platforms are always optimizing and updating and changing, and yes, it can certainly be perceived as being annoying for us. Uh, business owners out there who are constantly feeling like we need to be chasing and getting ahead of the algorithm, but the foundation behind algorithmic updates on the platforms end is very much about making the user experience.
So if we can perceive it from a perspective that, Hey, we’re all being forced to deliver better content, to make better content. So ensure that it’s more engaging for our audience. I mean, that’s what we want as we are in the business of service and our social media is simply an extension. I’m going to be talking about the extension of that service that we offer within our actual business, whatever that looks like, be that bricks and mortar, um, in a clinic or a studio or in a retail or whether you are online, it doesn’t matter.
It’s an extension of us. Okay. I also want to. In addition to giving you my take on the various algorithms that are at play, uh, is also to discuss because it’s so interconnected, what it actually looks like to show up as an actual leader within your business. Okay, so first up, let’s dive into the algorithms that we all have to contend with.
So the first and most obvious, as we’ve touched on already, is the platform specific algorithms. And the second one that we’re gonna talk about today is a universal algorithm. So let’s dive into the platform specific one first. Meta is, as I’ve mentioned, all about engagement. It is all about, and it’s not just meta, I know I’ve said meta, but you know, it applies to TikTok, it applies to YouTube, it even applies to Google, okay?
Because they certainly have their own algorithm at play as well. But it is all about how relevant Our message, our posts, our videos are, um, you know, there are certainly contributions to the algorithm around time specified delivery of that content. Um, how aesthetically appealing it is, how easy it is to engage with, how relevant it is to our audience.
Okay. We’ve got to consider that the social platforms are becoming, well, certainly are an iteration of the standard. Search. Okay. So Google as the most well known search platform, our social media is becoming a component of that as well. Okay. Now the universal algorithm is probably even bigger at play than the platform specific one.
And that is driven by your intention, by your deliberate actions, your energy, your frequency, your state of being. Okay. Okay. Now with both algorithms, I want to just, no, I want to clarify that we are co creators with both. Okay. It’s really important. You’ve got to manage yourself a little bit differently, but we’re certainly creating with both.
And so my question to you is, Are you working with and in alignment with each of these two algorithms that I’ve mentioned? Or are you finding yourself constantly at the mercy of them? Feeling like you’re being held hostage? Um, are you being driven perhaps by your emotional state that you haven’t like fully, you know, Being aware that is actually really affecting the universal algorithm, for example, okay.
I’m going to dive into all of these things as we go throughout today. And it goes without saying that the algorithm, both of them, are very real. Okay. They absolutely do exist, but at no point do you have to be the mercy of them. Okay. Okay. Even when it comes to Google, there are so many things that are well within your control.
Okay. You get to decide and manage the quality of the content that you put out and that you deliver. That’s up to you. Okay. It’s up to you to know your niche and know it so well inside out and back to front that it makes it easy for you to manage the quality of the content you deliver. Okay. It’s up to you to nail your messaging so that it resonates and is relevant to your audience.
It’s also up to you to know your business numbers. Okay. Slightly kind of Relevant, but off topic with the algorithm because there’s two different parts. So you must know the metrics associated with your posts. If you’re delivering ads, for example, then the metrics associated with that are going to be a little bit different than the engagement specific metrics associated with your actual posts that you deliver.
So how do you know whether you’re. content is any good or not. Okay. Because it didn’t get a thousand likes, but what if you’ve only got a hundred followers, it’s all relevant to the different stages of business that you were at. Okay. And the percentages that would apply for your industry. Okay. Now these are just some of the critical elements that you must be on top of.
And Be comfortable with knowing and managing when you’re driving your business forward. Now I’m fully aware that you are excellent at the service that you offer within your business. I have no doubt that you’re an absolute master of your craft because you are, you’ve got this calling, you’re good at what you do.
You want to put it out there and you’ve been called to. Kind of do that on your own. Okay. Now it’s perfectly understandable that the business side of things, the container within which you’re going to be delivering that might take you a minute to figure out, you know, it’s possibly not where you started from.
You don’t have a business degree behind you. It’s okay. If you don’t, and you know, you’ve spent time learning your craft and now it’s really time for you to learn the business side of things. So first and foremost, give yourself a minute to sort of go, okay, I can take a second to catch up with my business and marketing learning.
You will get there. Okay. Now, in terms of getting ahead of the algorithm and identifying whether you are at the mercy of it being held hostage by it, let’s have a look at some classic signs that will help you identify whether or not you are. If you’re finding that you’re constantly worried and stressed about your business, okay, that’s at the forefront of your mind.
You’re concerned as to why your social posts aren’t reaching the full potential that you think that they should. You’re also concerned that your ads aren’t converting. And by all accounts and purposes, you think that they should be. And you don’t know why they’re not. Okay. If you’re also not clear on how you are communicating what it is that you’re actually offering and you have some confusion around sitting down and creating content, for example, because you don’t really know what it is to say, then All of this constant worry, this constant concern and confusion being at the forefront of your mind.
Have you considered the impact that this energetic state that that’s creating in you Is creating in your life and is creating in your business from a manifesting perspective and in a universal algorithmic view, what is it that you’re attracting back in? Because if you’re putting out concern and worry and confusion, Is that attractive to bring back in?
Is it clear for your clients to, or your future clients, your prospects to go, Oh, yep. Beam me up, Scotty. Like take me straight to this person. They’re bang on what I, what I want, what I’m looking for and where I’m kind of at. Okay. And so with that, your energetic state of being is really dictating to you whether you are holding yourself hostage and whether you’re allowing yourself to be at the mercy of things that you feel are perhaps out of your control.
Okay. Now you can absolutely continue to operate your business as if the meta algorithm is in fact holding you hostage, or you can step into the shoes of being a powerful, empowered entrepreneur and become the pack leader that your business needs you to be. Now, I’ve actually been catching up on some episodes of Caesar Milan recently, the Dog Whisperer, in case In case you don’t know who Cesar Millan is.
Now I have dogs, so I’m interested in dog training. So yes, I know Cesar Millan. I’m familiar with the dog, Miss Brewer. I love, um, his training style. I find that it’s Very intuitive that it’s very energetically aligned. And he’s somebody that I’ve been following kind of on and off and certainly implementing a lot of his, I guess, philosophies in how I’ve trained my dogs and because all of a sudden I’m catching up on his episodes and my dogs are getting whipped straight back into.
Not that they weren’t like fabulous before, but now we’re just like, okay, we’re taking it to a whole new level of amazing behavior. Okay. Now, if you’ve ever watched any of his episodes, you’ll note that he is very clear that a dog’s bad behavior is an outcome. of your energetic state. Okay. Now this is a really big light bulb moment.
So your ability to get in front of the platform algorithms is about your energetic state. Okay. Now, as I’ve already mentioned, you need to have the skills and the knowledge on how to get ahead of the algorithm. Okay. So that’s where you deliver good quality content. That’s where your messaging is relevant, that it’s aesthetically appealing that you post at times, um, where your audience is present so that you’re putting best practice in.
Okay. So those skills, much. Just like having dog handling skills is honestly the easy part of getting in front of the algorithm, the management of your energy. That’s nuanced and truthfully, it is actually still entirely up to you. So let’s highlight some critical examples so that we can really let this light bulb moment truly shine super bright.
Cause. It’s really important. Now, if your social posts aren’t quite delivering, then I don’t want you to shrivel up and worry about them. That’s one way that you can handle the situation. And you might even think that as I’ve said it, that’s exactly what you’ve been doing. Okay. So give yourself permission to identify that there are actually very Many moving parts, uh, to delivering amazing quality content.
You’ve got the actual copy. So the message itself, the creative, which is the visual. Okay. Uh, for the purpose of Instagram, you know, we’ve got hashtags and having the relevant ones, you know, utilizing as many as you can. Although one of the platform updates, um, that I’ve. Recently sort of learned is that they’re actually reducing the volume of them.
So that’s another consideration there. Okay. Uh, the music that you use and whether what you’ve put out there is like even interesting to your audience. Okay. And so the difference in not being at the mercy of it, not shriveling up and worrying about whether the post was good or not is going right. I’ve got six or seven different components to this one post, and if it didn’t land, it’s going right.
Is it the copy? Is it the creative? Is it the hashtags? Did I post at the wrong time of day? Is it not the right combination of things? It’s putting on your detective hat and going, right, I’m going to figure this out. Okay. As another example, if you’re running a ad, so like, let’s just say Facebook ads. Uh, and you have them running as part of a simple funnel.
Okay. And the funnel’s not working and you’ve gone into overwhelm because you spent all of this money with meta. It’s hugely overwhelming because it’s bloody complicated and it is. Um, and. You don’t really know where to begin or what it is that why it isn’t working. So you throw your hands up in there and go, right, I’ve had enough.
And you’re either going to outsource it to somebody else or simply just give up. And again, you stepping into Being that leader for your business in you getting ahead of the algorithm, the universal and the platform. One is identifying that knowing your numbers here is key. Okay. The numbers will tell you whether the creative is working with your audience.
Okay. Different metrics within met as reporting will tell you that the copy is not quite right. Okay, the click through rates will show you whether the land is the problem. Okay, then your own personal metrics that you’ve got within your landing page will tell you whether the landing page itself is an issue.
Okay. If you’ve got heat map plugins available that can further assist you to guide you as to, well, how far down my page are people actually going? What is it that they’re actually reading and interpreting that data so that you can make the necessary changes and tweak your ads performance and get it to a point where it will work for you.
Okay, so can you see that as I’ve drawn your attention here to a couple of examples, and now that you’re thinking about the relevant examples within your business, that there are several factors at play and Perhaps what you hadn’t noticed was the biggest one of them all has to do with your mindset and your energy.
And obviously the two are linked as you know, if you’ve listened to any of my prior podcast episodes before, you’ll know that your thoughts and your frequency, your energy, your state of being is all linked. Everything is energy. Okay, now business growth isn’t linear. I want to take a moment to identify that you may not always have a completely upward trajectory.
And I’m certainly not taking away from you that you might. Okay, but it’s okay if you don’t. We often put so much pressure on ourselves to move forward, to be bigger, to leap further, and if you really think about it, Is it because you’re running away from something? And if you are, that’s okay. The desire to change and grow and evolve.
It’s a very beautiful, natural state that we are in. All go through. Okay, and if you are trying to get away from something because you are wanting more and better for yourself, I’m here for that. Like I’m all here for that for you. Okay, but I will invite you to enjoy the process and enjoy the journey. of you figuring it out and getting to your destination because the gift really is in the present and a critical step in getting ahead of the algorithm, the platform and the universal one is checking yourself along the way.
Okay. Um, it is really identifying that You can get caught up and stuck in this isn’t working, and then you feel bad about it, and then you beat yourself up about it, and then you’re behind both algorithms, or you can really take your power back and go, okay, that didn’t land. No problem. I’m gonna do it again.
And this time I’m gonna try tweaking the copy a little bit this time. Okay, or this style of visual didn’t work. Let’s try a different style of visual and then see how that lands. When you treat everything as a science experiment, You’ll find that it’s going to really help you be mindful of your mindset and your energetic state of being, okay?
And so, it’s really important to remember that we do live in a 3D world. Um, And it’s really important as I’ve highlighted throughout that we are blending what the platforms actually need. It’s not rocket science, but it is nuanced. And if you can take the pressure off yourself of going, this is hard, this is overwhelming, I’ll never learn this.
Okay, take all that thought speak out of the equation. What if you could What if it was easy? What if it came naturally to you? Why not set yourself up in the best possible light, in the best possible positioning that you can for optimal success? Because if this business is important enough for you, if you’ve been called to be here, if you’ve got something to share, then let’s get it out there and let’s set you up with the best success possible.
And if that means you do so from a place of Anything is possible for me, and you align your mindset with that, and you align your actions with that, your ability to get in front of both algorithms suddenly has gone up exponentially. Okay. So as I start to wrap up this episode, cause there’s a lot to digest in here, it’s definitely one you’re probably going to want to listen to more than once.
Um, and no doubt I’ll do another iteration or some variation of this moving forward. Cause it’s so important, but when you are working on your business diligently, you’re putting in the time, the effort, the energy, and if you’re still finding that your personal interest State is constantly about worry about the stress about why it isn’t working.
Please consider the impact that this is going to have on the universal business algorithm and in turn, the platform specific algorithm, people can really. Feel, um, that transference of energy, they won’t necessarily understand, or they won’t go, Oh, that person’s having a bad day. No, it’s not going to be as 3d and logical as that, but they will perceive that there’s.
Uncertainty in there for you. Okay. Now, as I’ve already mentioned, you need to have a digital presence. Your messaging must be clear. It must resonate with your audience and the execution and determination. These are up to you. Take your time. Have fun. There are numerous resources out there available that can help you hone your message, that can help you be clear on what it is that you’re trying to say.
Okay. And then the next part of that really is that it’s up to you to choose, because it is a choice, whether you’re going to freak out about the fact that this post didn’t land or this one didn’t do so well, Or you can make the choice to identify, okay, they didn’t. And so now I’m going to figure out what it is that I need to put some more time and effort into.
Figuring it out and making it better. So when you approach it from a perspective of, I learned the lesson that I need, or I get the outcome that I want, then you’ll find that you’re truly stepping into the shoes of becoming the power creator of your business. This is how you become empowered. This is where you take your power back.
And this is where you really start to drive your business forward as a leader, as a business owner. And this is how you beat the algorithms.
